Atemlos, so kann man wohl Algiers tiefschwarzen Gospel nennen.<\/p>\n
Er erinnert mit seiner durchdringenden und fauchenden Wucht an den Protest-Soul der sechziger Jahre, der damals zum lauthalsen Symbol unterdr\u00fcckter Minderheiten wurde. Algiers vermischen den urgewaltigen Sound mit Post-Punk-, Industrial- und New Wave-Einfl\u00fcssen und verleihen so ihrem ganz pers\u00f6nlichen Soul eine neue Dringlichkeit. Die Musik der urspr\u00fcnglich aus Atlanta stammenden Band erinnert dabei an Birthday Party oder den Gun Club und unterwirft sich keinem aktuellen Zeitgeist \u2013 das macht Algiers gerade im Hier und Jetzt so besonders.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\nW\u00e4hrend andere Bands sich mit ihrem Sound beim R\u00b4n B oder Hip Hop anbiedern und sich gegenseitig repetitiv zitieren, zelebrieren Algiers den traditionellen Sound des US-amerikanischen S\u00fcdens mit modernen Mitteln und verleihen ihm so die Eintrittskarte in eine gro\u00dfe Zukunft.
\nS\u00e4nger Franklin James Fischer klingt dabei wie eine Reinkarnation von Screamin\u00b4 Jay Hawkins, beschw\u00f6rend und rastlos singt und wird dabei zum vers\u00f6hnlich grollenden Seelenbrecher. Aufgenommen wurde das selbstbetitelte und von Tom Morris produzierte Deb\u00fctalbum in London in den 4AD- und Gunfactory Studios.
\nDie beiden anderen Bandmitglieder Ryan Mahan und Lee Tesche leben zur Zeit auch in London, wo auch die meisten Songs des Albums entstanden sind.<\/p>\n
